Message from our Director

Planet Kids is entering its 12th year and we are very proud to offer more than 40 unique camp programs to serve Mississauga, Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Georgetown, Brampton, Guelph, Cambridge and beyond. With 4 locations to serve you, we would like to welcome back the newly renovated Vic Johnston Community Centre (Streetsville). The other three locations are Kelso Conservation Area (Milton), Hershey Sportszone (Mississauga), and King's Christian Collegiate (Oakville).

Back in 1982 I was given an opportunity to work as a camp counsellor and it forever changed my life. My success as a counsellor was driven by how many kids attended my program. In the beginning 2-4 kids would show up daily but by the end of the summer I had more than 60 kids excited about what I had organized. I have learned that enthusiasm is contagious and I needed to be well rested to have the patience and energy to "keep up". I've learned that paying attention to all children, not just those that ask for it, will include everyone and the shy reserved child will get more involved. I've learned that kids lose interest in activities when I don't participate myself. I've learned that kids are always looking for someone to lead them. These early life lessons have provided the foundation for what Planet Kids stands for today.

When parents or campers make comments about Planet Kids, it's our staff that gets mentioned most often. Planet Kids is successful because of the quality of its people more so than the policies, programs and vision that guide them. We invest heavily in making sure that mature, responsible, nurturing staff are prepared to meet the needs and expectations of today's child. Television, computers and video games have steadily changed the way in which kids are amused. Planet Kids gives children the opportunity to be physically active, enjoy the outdoors, make new friends, have fun, and learn something along the way.

We are never satisfied with our successes as we focus our energies on improving and changing the way in which we deliver and communicate our ideas to our customers. The new programs for this coming summer include Scrapbook Sensations, Lets Build - Blockanics (building with Lego, Magnetics), Snap Shots (photography), Works of Art (fine art), Clay Creations (pottery), Skateboarding, Net Sports and Bon Appetite (cooking).

We hope that you will join us again or for the very first time!

Yours in Health,

Jeff Deverill
